Debuted 9/17/10 Cuthbert Amphitheater, Eugene, OR From Furthur.net ew Furthur song debuted! The Mountain Song High On A Mountain O. Reed/P. Lesh/ B. Lesh High On A Mountain is another song that follows in the same tradition as The Mountain Song. Originally written by Ola Belle Reed, the song has had many incarnations in the country and gospel genres. Knowing how incredibly powerful traditional songs can be (see; I Know You Rider, Long Black Veil, etc.), my dad came up with a beautiful new rendition of the song. However, the one problem was that the song was too short. Ola Belle Reeds version only had two verses, and the universe doesnt allow Furthur to play a song under five minutes long. I was given the honor of solving this problem, and soon came up with three new verses. While the original song was something of a sad love story, I aimed for a different type of love, that of brothers. Working on this song was an incredible experience, and I hope you all enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed writing it. -Brian Lesh High On a Mountain (Chorus) High on a mountain, standing all alone Wondering where the years of my life have flown High on a mountain, wind blowing free Dreamin on the days that used to be 1. As I look at the valleys far below They are green just as far as I can see As my memories return, oh how my heart does yearn For you and the days that used to be (Chorus) 2. To my brother I said, 'brother walk with me Roam above and beyond the whisperin' trees We can climb the highest mountain, the whole world for to see If only you would come and walk with me' 3. I remember the way he grew his hair And the way he could melt away despair With a smile on his face, made our climb into a race Dreamin' of days that were to be (Chorus) 4. So lonesome did this mountain seem to be The day that your spirit caught the breeze As I sit here all alone, like a child on a throne I wonder what I now am 'sposed to be 5. Oh, I wonder where in heaven you might be And if love has preserved your memory As I listen to the breeze whisper gently through the trees I will always cherish what you mean to me (Chorus)
