ok, BIG MIDDLE FINGER extended to SummerStage

David Byrne played from 8 til 9:30. Curfew was 10. Rather than having David Byrne, the headliner, who everyone in attendance paid $40 to see, play an encore, the SummerStage made the worst, most unprofessional, disrespectful, inexplicable call I have ever seen made at a concert.

The opening band didn't get to play because of the rain. So the geniuses running SummerStage decided to have them play from 9:30-10, right up to curfew, taking away any David Byrne encore time, and essentially making them the headliner of the night.

FUCK YOU SUMMERSTAGE.

That was easily the most disappointing thing I have ever been unfortunate enough to witness in my 12+ years of seeing shows.

Again, FUCK YOU SUMMERSTAGE.

I really cannot begin to explain how pissed off and disillusioned I am right now.

I do not blame David Byrne - David Byrne and his band played a GREAT 90 minute set, and they wanted to play more. I also do not blame whatever Christian brass band revivalist SHIT they brought out there...they just wanted to play. Fine. It's SummerStage's JOB, and their RESPONSIBILITY, to say NO. You dropped the ball SummerStage, and in a BIG way.

The only conceivable explanation I can think of is that SummerStage did not want to pay whatever band that was for playing when they didn't play.

All I can say is that if you had people who know what's up, and who can RESPECT an established, PROFESSIONAL musician like David Byrne, this would never have happened.

Agan, FUCK YOU SUMMERSTAGE. Thanks for ruining a great night and a great show.

LOCO IS PISSED

Byrne was AWESOME. He did a lot of solo stuff, which im not all that familiar with (he did the "everything's possible, when you're an animal" song but i can't remember others specifically), I Zimbra, Rainy Day Dreaming (a Jimi Hendrix cover from Axis: Bold as Love, he sounded GREAT on it and the chorus was raging), Naive Melody (This Must Be the Place), Road to Nowhere, Pyscho Killer, and Life During Wartime. and they did the song i can't remember that goes at the end "we're doing boom boom boom, and that's the way that we live, and in a great big room..."

The show was AWESOME, the Tosca Strings were AWESOME, I was having a GREAT TIME with a BUNCH of my friends. Which is why I was, and still am, so pissed off at the way things ended.

hey bernie - eat a dick

i wonder if byrne knew this from the begining, because i felt he REALLY REALLY wasnt giving it his all out there

i mean, the man knows how to bring the house down

i wonder if he knew thats what was gonna happen before he started and kinda MEH'd his performance

this was my first byrne show, and i just really wanted to see him, to almost say i did, the music was good, but definately way too short

haha^ thats funny...

damn loco, sounds like I might have made the right call by not going up to NYC from philly. although, I probably wouldn't have expected much more than 90 minutes to be honest. still, the man should close out his show!

I stayed awake until 2 o' clock just sitting on the couch SCREAMING about how PISSED I was!!! This was not fucking right. I got in there about twenty mintues late, I think I walked in to Tiny Apocalypse and was loving it immediately. Got three beers, walked straight into the middle area (when I finally figured out how to get there) and ended up right in front of the stage. Finished the beers close to 9:30 and I was deciding whether to leave my GREAT spot to get more, but I decided to stay because it ended up being his last song?!? Then I stood there for thirty minutes purposely being "the guy who hasn't put his hands together tonight and who will not FIND GOD?!?!" FUCK GOD, I WANT DAVID BYRNE BACK!!! I thought the whole time, he's got to at least come back out for an encore, right?!? And then they ended, I punched the air many times and proceeded to yell until I lost my voice about it!!!

I love David Byrne and would gladly pay $40 for an hour and a half, but this was just handled SO badly!!

ok,I thought Loco was being rediculous by beiing bitter and pouting about it all night and letting it ruin the great music we actually did get to hear, but now that I see a second opinion, I'll cut him some slack.

I was so pleased with the song selection and I was thrilled that I was able to dance the whole time. What pissed me off was the huge fake-out. It wasn't just that they brought this brass band out on stage to play, it was that I had heard that Byrne has brought out brass bands this tour and they cover Beyonce's "Crazy in Love." I freaking love that song and I thought for sure that's what they would be doing.

No such luck. Boo center stage.

"so anticlimactic but still cant be mad"

don't tell me what i can and can't be dipshit. LOCO IS PISSED.

I'm writing a scathing letter to SummerStage today, I'll post it here if anyone wants to send the same or modify it. I'm demanding 1 of 3 things - 1) full refund, 2) free tickets to another show there of my choice, or 3) a free David Byrne concert later in the summer.

The only other time I have ever felt like this leaving a show was a Blues Traveler show at the Arts Center in Holmdel. It was BT, M'shell N'dgeolcello (sp?), and someone else. It was advertised as a BT performance, even stating in the ad that BT was legendary for their 2 1/2 hour plus performances. Meanwhile, what they didn't tell everyone was that this was a co-co-headlining gig, and all 3 acts got 75 minutes. There were hippie riots afterwards, no violence or anything, just everyone dancing in the fountain there and refusing to leave. I think MTV News might have picked up on it. Anyway, you could use your ticket stub to get free HORDE tour tickets later that summer, which I did.

SummerStage needs to make last night right in the same kind of way.

That was by far the worst David Byrne show, the music was great don't get me wrong, but summer stage really needs to fix their sound. The volume is so low (both for Byrne and the Roots), and the sound mix is horrible, I coudlnt hear any bass at all. That was the first time I heard him do Road to nowhere which made me really happy. The encore shit was complete bullshit, why would he not do one of his songs with horn sections like Bline or Mr Jones? Blah, even one song as an encore would have made me happy, and he usually does 3-5 song encores!

Oh well, I still enjoyed it. Byrne is timeless

Yes, you should write a letter, but you may want to let someone who is not "crazed" proofread it. In the state that you are in, a rational, normal person reading your letter may just totally laugh at your overreaction.

We still saw 1.5 hours of David Byrne, so a complete refund would be unreasonable.

Tickets to another, less expensive show in the park would suffice though and I believe it is within their power to grant such a request.
