I should have been there to stop you. I can't help but feel partly responsible. I'm sorry you will never get that time back. Sleep it off and hopefully you will feel better tomorrow.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>Are you the type of person who will finish watching a movie no matter how shitty it is? I'm definitely like that.

Not me, man. I have a 60 minute rule in place that I strictly adhere to and annoys my g/f to no end.

Smock: Abandon at the hour mark if things are really bad? That sounds reasonable. Although, if I had followed this I would have abandoned The Fountain last night for various reasons, but I ended up being glad I finished it and I need to see it again very soon.

Shawn: Are you planning to watch your chosen filmography chronologically? This seems rather obvious and definitely the best way to get the most out of it, but I'm curious.

anyways, to carry over from the other thread - I'm working on figuring out a grading system I like, just so that I can start to put down a general number + thoughts in the journal I keep in excel for years down the road

I think stars are pretty worthless, and basically only let you separate down as far as "good", "ok" and "bad"

I like the 100 point system, it gives a lot of flexibility + room to sort of grade by comparison

right now, it's roughly

100 = perfect
90 = masterpiece
80 = great/reasonable best of year
70 = very good
60 = good
50 = mediocre
40 = flawed, but watchable
30 = the absolute bottom of anyone's time
20 = critically flawed
10 = a disaster
0 = not a single redeeming frame

Are you any closer to deciding your chosen fate, Shawn?

Two years back, only a few weeks after I moved to San Francisco, the PFA in Berkeley showed all Lubitsch's features over the course of a month or so and I didn't make it to any of them, which made me quite sad later on.

My first trip there ended up being to see Tarr's Werckmeister Harmonies, though, which remains in my all-time top ten, so all was not lost.

I'm still debating between Ray and Preminger, going to have to give it a final run through on availability/the damage each would do to my KG ratio/etc. tomorrow

speaking of Tarr, I'm going to watch Satantango for the first time next week

I'm pretty hyped

This is a great show with surprising little circulation. Great banter. Great sound. Enjoy.

Hey. It took me 6 minutes to upload this. Nighty night, fans.

I don't think I've ever heard an Aimee Mann song besides the one in Magnolia

I would go Preminger.

But if you have not seen 'Johnny Guitar'...please watch it.

Last minute suggestion:

Victor Erice* or Luchino Visconti

*Full disclosure: The Spirit of the Beehive is my favorite film ever, so that's why I thought of him.

Oh, and I am officially borrowing your rating system for a test drive because I like the look of it.
