Where'd you go?
How was the experience?
I'm studying for the LSAT right now... Don't really have a clue where I want to go, though I'd like to stay on the east coast...

Brooklyn Law School. great for NYC job scene after school.
Figure out if you are going to pay for it yourself with loans, or you have help from Mom and Dad. This isn't a great economy to leave grad school 100k in debt. Make a study group. Divide the outlines. Ignore the comments anyone makes in class and concentrate on what the law is, not what the "intellectual discussion among your peers" is about. The grades are based on knowing the law. Take BarBri, even during the first year of school, as the outlines will save your ass. Intern like crazy.
It's worth it.

I am studying for the bar as we speak. Most people in my graduating class are not happy about their choice to attend Law School. I am not one of them. The job market sucks and people are pissed they don’t have jobs, have a ton of debt, and most entry level jobs don’t pay more than $60,000. Getting your J.D. is not really a gateway to making lots of money anymore. Only go to Law School if you are sure it’s for you. Getting a J.D. really isn’t that hard and doesn’t give you that much of an edge. On the other hand, if you are a super good student and are mature enough to get good grades then you should go.
The experience is O.K. There is a social scene in all Law Schools that is kind of funny. Your 1L year is kind of fun.
I went to the University of Denver.

For the Bar, do as many sets of practice questions as you can, and track your percentages of correct answers. Make sure you are getting consistently passing percentages for the multiple choice sections in each subject. Don't fall into the trap of going over your outlines over and over and forgetting about doing the practice questions. They are key.
Day of the bar, wear layers, pack earplugs (trust me on this, especially if you are seated in or near the computer section), and bring in sugar free red bull and enough quiet snacks and cough drops. You will want the Red Bull when you are drained at the end of the day, have 1.5 hours left and need to make up for lost time. Best of Luck. I rocked the NY state bar, and it wasn't easy. You can do it!

Don't go.
The legal market is terrible right now. You may be thinking 'but it will better by the time I graduate.' Most of the good jobs are essentially secured in the fall of your 2nd year. Things havent even started to turn for the better yet, they may never but they wont by then. I'm very lucky to have a good job that hasnt been deferred or rescinded, even with t10% grades from a good not great school (t30).

I'm at SLU, Saint Louis University. Great if you want to work in St. Louis, but not so great otherwise.
I would give strong consideration to Vermont. And not just because we're currently on a Phish message board. It's currently the most liberal law school in the nation, don't know what your politics are there. Either way, its really good for Environmental Law if you're interested. Don't by a megafirm six-figure shit gargler.

Don't go to law school unless you get a full ride somewhere. The student loans will kill your life and any chance at happiness you have left. Seriously. I am fucking miserable as a lawyer but have no other choice because of the 100k+ in student loans.

don't go unless you REALLY want to. if you're going because you need a next step and aren't sure what to do, wait, work and figure it out.
going to law school was one of the worst decisions i ever made.

I will be a 3L this year. I spent the first two years HATING EVERY MINUTE of law school.
Right now I work at a small firm and the odd thing is that I really like my job and am kind of excited about being a lawyer. I'm lucky to have great bosses though- most people in law school are pretty douchey.
Considering I only have a year left I'm pretty happy right now - I might not feel this way when those loan payments start becoming due!
SERIOUSLY, don't go for the wrong reasons (parents, can't think of anything else, etc.) - it really sucks to pay 30k a year to hate what you do every day when you didn't really even want to be there in the first place.

I will be a 3L at Rutgers-Newark this year. Im also working at a small firm, 20-25 lawyers, doing commercial litigation and I really like it. My roommate hates his bosses, so it all depends on who you work for.
Honestly, it matters how you do wherever you're at. I heard how hard law school was before I went, and yea, its a lot of work, but if you budget your time right and stay on top of your work you'll be fine. You wont be going out 5 nights a week anymore, but you'll find time to have some fun and see some shows. Most of the time I went out the first 2 years was to catch some music. It was the best way to clear my head.
I love the way law school has taught me how to think. It teaches you nothing really about actually practicing law, but the education is great.

Don't go to law school unless you know you want to litigate. Litigation is really the only thing that is quasi-recession proof. Plaintiffs' work. Defense work. Whatever. If you don't think you want to be a litigator, do something else.
Although some of you will certainly disagree, that is my advice.

i completely disagree with this. it might have been my law school or the others in my class, but i feel like there was no real intellectual conversation happening at all. thank god for my great undergradtuate education.

Just graduated NYU... studying for the bar. Sucks. BIG. TIME.
Clerking for a judge on the ICTY next year and then I'm supposed to return to a firm in NYC next fall, but I may be doing a federal clerkship. Depends on what I really want to do, and whether the firm can give me any kind of assurance that they will take me on after the clerkship.
I was lucky enough to do well (anyone who tells you that luck has nothing to do with it really doesn't know how grading in law school works), so I guess it's been a wise investment - but the close to 200k in loans is going to be tough to grind with.
I'd agree with most that right now is probably a shitty time to go unless you can go top tier or for free. There are TONS of lawyers out there, and TONS of BigLaw lawyers who just got laid off. Yeah, some people do fine out on their own, but a lot of people end up hating it, but are forced to stay in because of debt loads.
And be forewarned - BigLaw jobs are NOT easy to get, particularly now. If you are interested in the big bucks, go get a finance degree or a CFA.
Also, just as an indication as to whether it is a good idea to go now, University of Miami's law school just offered a deferral package to their incoming 1L's. Yeah. Crazy times.

I'll be a 1L in a month. Attending LSU Law.
I'm stoked. I've been doing the corporate thing (risk management) since undergrad (UGA '06) and it sucks. Totally looking forward to law school.
Sure, there are lots of lawyers out there & many have been laid off. But if you have the grades & the charisma, you're golden. I think that lots of people go to law school "just because", which is why you have so many lawyers that hate their profession. To anyone considering law school, I suggest becoming a paralegal or at least working at a firm so you understand what you are getting yourself into (and that it will cost you $100k+).
Best of luck.

I'm graduating from Indiana U in Indianapolis in August and currently studying for the Indiana bar. I did JD/MBA all at night and worked my ass off to finish both degrees in a total of 4 years. My advice - consider a part time program. I'm graduating with 4 years of full time work experience in a civil litigation firm. The local job market sucks, so I'm staying on with the firm on a "eat what you kill" basis.
