I think Michna and Nosaj Thing should be on the list and very much prefer edit's sets to Ooah...
Good thread tho...

Was hoping to get some other suggestions. James Zabiela is just owning right now I highly recommend any of his live mixes. Krafty rocks ridiculous breaks and scratches like no other. Steve Porter I just kind of threw in there cause I was struggling with no. 5! Cheers!

Some DJ Z-Trip mixes for download

...sometimes people want to hear a genre of music, get down to their favorite tracks, be exposed to a few tracks they may not have heard before, listen to sweet tracks on huge club speakers and mingle with other people while drinking alcohol. some DJ's do a better job of setting the mood in situations like this than others.

Pretty Lights and Prefuse blew me away at the STS9 afterparties this new years... I'd been waiting to see Prefuse for a while, and had never heard of Pretty Lights until then. The thing I really noticed about Prefuse is how much attention he payed to the mastering. It's like he was performing in super high-def, Amon Tobin style.

MoonSocket2012
04/24/09 10:29PM ET
By mastering I mean sound quality. He wasn't just playing an overwhelming amount of glitches to show off like a lot of DJs... He had taste.

In response to the guy who dismissed DJs, I used to hate electronica and then through Phish I really got into it -go figure. Wouldn't give up live music, nor would I pass up a night to throw down all night with a great DJ.

Great thread -don't know most of the names you're listing!

haha I never heard about Justice faking their sets, but I wouldn't doubt it. I am a big Ed Recs fluffer though, so I have to back them up.

I've never heard of half the stuff you guys are talking about! I'm going to check out Pantha Du Price, name sounds cool enough

Have you guys heard MIX HELL? A new favorite right now. But as far as best consistent DJ, I can't believe I am the only person that has mentioned Erol Alkan. That guy never disappoints & always brings the party.

We got RR's in the bag or what?.. I need to book that ticket!

I'm flying out to BahhhhhhStahhhhhhhhn for a long weekend and hopefully catching great woods... $59 each way on Jet Blue Biatch!...

Zabiela #1?.. if so the #1 DJ on EARTH made me fall asleep at Club Might in Potrero Hill - SF.. in a TINY VENUE... if that's good.. that I guess I just don't like music anymore :)

can't wait to see you G... oh lord it's been too long..

Favorite Lindstrom track eve is
"Arp She Said" always reminded me of Phish...epic...
From the album "It's a Feedelity Affair"
get it here:

That Lindstrom you upped reminds me of Juan McLean...I'm "lean" on their shit...if anyone's got...up it...

Anyone else love Venetian Snares? I know he's a has-been and he's put out a lot of shit that he should have held back (his discog is enormous and not exactly consistent), but I'll be damned if "Nymphomatriarch" is not the coolest concept for an album ever. I mean, the guy took vaginal sex samples for that. Enough said. And "Detrimentalist" is really good.

Epic is def the word for WYGIGT
3 track hour long electronic album is unheard of, but they do it beautifully...very nicely composed start to finish...

windomearle
04/25/09 12:15AM ET
Yeh Lindstrom's a master of tension/release. WYGIGT is just so versatile..great for headphone/attentive listening, driving, background music, or shaking your ass if the mood strikes..really can't say enough about that album

Gonna up some more shit from 2009 here in a few

Sasha and Digweed is def worth your time. Bonnaroo 07 was killer... they played until sunrise. John Digweed is one of my favorites. His Transitions series is flawless.

you seriously need to look at reconsidering your definitions of "instrument" and "musicians"

MoonSocket2012
04/25/09 4:48PM ET
I play guitar and bass, and fuck around with MIDI. MIDI is relatively new to me. It's not as easy as it might seem. The amount of [sound-altering] parameters you can control with electronic (even software) instruments these days is overwhelming. Some of the shit Native Instruments puts out is way over my head (still fun to fuck with). I have a lot of respect for musicians like Richard Devine (who endorses NI gear) who have mastered that art.
